How I Picked the Best Klon Klone (For Me!!)
Brad has an original Floyd Rose on his. Very few were made and almost impossible to get your hands on one.
And this guitar has an original Floyd Rose on it as well. Albeit a modern version, but it is 100% real. Brad has multiple versions of this guitar, most made by Fernandes. They all have modern replica Floyd Rose bridges. I take your point, Brad's original 1963 Strat has one of the very first Floyd's, hand made by the man himself. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@Metalcop5150 cool. Great video man. I wonder what Brad thinks about Fernandez going under? Maybe someone will buy them, l always wanted a Ravellel with emg's.
@@AugustLeeFrisk I dunno if Brad necessarily cares about Fernandes? I know that he has several replicas of his original Strat and they say Fernandes on the headstock. He also teamed up with some unspecified guitar manufacturer (Cara Guitars?), and they were selling a 'Brad Gillis Experience'? You got to meet Brad, watch a Night Ranger concert and you got a hyper accurate replica of his '63 Strat for $7500. They also offered a less accurate Fernandes replica guitar/experience for $5500. I used their pictures for authenticity, when making my replicas. Mine obviously don't have the relic'ing and stickers etc.
Just to add the story of the neck design came from Ed’s Kramer 5150 not the Frankenstein. Jim said Frankie in his stories cuz lots of people called all his striped guitars Frankenstein not knowing the difference
@@cheesewesil18 Yes, I ‘kind of’ knew that. I was using the terms Frankenstein and 5150 interchangeably in the video, believing that what they all meant (MM and Peavey) was the 5150 that Ed has been playing for the past 5-6 years, almost exclusively. Thanks for watching and commenting!! 🤘
@@Metalcop5150 of course man! Yea I figured you knew that lol but I’m sure there’s people who don’t know. But yea man great video! I would like to see another from pv to evh
I just bought this same set up on marketplace for $350 and it’s already drilled and tapped for my 89 GT. Debating if I want to get it ported as well. Would like to pair it with some GT40 heads or possibly some aluminum heads. Anyways, great video man and thanks for all the info!
@@tedoakley5600 You are very welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting !
@@Metalcop5150 absolutely my man. Take care.
Wonder if the klon kit is the same as the klon from ttone on wish
These things in total are all reliant on some really clunky hardware. Four threaded inserts shoved into the carved top, to receive four threaded posts, whose threads rattle around in each other. And whose shoulder surfaces aren’t even perfectly flat, to accept their bar pieces whose holes are oversized and whose mating surfaces aren’t always flat . . then to the bridge saddles and their fit, finish & limited action . . then to the “convenient” placing of the six intonation screws . . and the whole thing up in the air like the massive bridge project that it is ! For a short scale, hard tail bridge with the least of problems that is sure a lot of bling ! But hold on, the strings tie all this structure down .
@@philliplee1193 That’s all true, the design is reliant on 1950’s technology! But you can’t argue with the sound that they created. There are better options out there, like Tone Pros, with better tolerances and locking bridges and tailpieces. A lot of this is about the almighty dollar. Gibson used Schaller produced Tunomatics and tailpieces for years, but moved off of them due to their cost. The modern Advanced Plating produced pieces are excellent, with very good tolerances as well. But your point is taken.
Do you have a video of you installing those bbk fuel rails by chance?
@@brayandominguez6571 No, sorry, I still have them sitting in the box. I recently installed stock fuel rails on my Cobra replica though, if you have any specific questions?
@@Metalcop5150 just got a motor and only thing missing is fuel rails and I purchased these bbk but I can’t find a video of someone putting them together and installing them but looks like it isent to difficult
@@brayandominguez6571 It’s really not that difficult. If you are using old injectors, I would replace the o-rings and screens, inexpensive kits are available. Use a little bit of 3in1 oil or similar on the o-rings when pushing the rails down on the injectors. Same with the fuel pressure regulator, make sure it all are seated properly. Make sure the fuel rails are bolted down to the intake manifold before testing! Otherwise the fuel pressure will (100%, lol) push the rails off! Lastly, make sure the clips holding your fuel lines to the rails are installed in the right direction. If they’re backwards, it can appear that they are right, but again, fuel pressure will push them apart. Good luck!
YJ: NOT MY FAV MODEL YEAR, BUT OVERALL THAT;S A NICE LOOKING JEEP.
Thanks for the kinds words! I also appreciate the view and comment, my friend.
Those are the most interesting mounting studs I've ever seen.
The old school 'wood screw' inserts? They were standard on all Floyd Rose trems until around 1987 or so, when they switched to the allen machine screw inserts. I prefer the wood screw inserts. You remove a lot less material from the guitar, but can sacrifice long term stability, if installed in a softer wood guitar. Though I've never had any issues.
@Metalcop5150 I live in a climate with extreme temperature and humidity changes. Seasonally, I have to make adjustments, including trem heights at times. Even though they are minor changes, I'd worry they'd be unstable after a couple years.
@@ivankrushensky They work just fine. Plenty of guitars from the 80’s still rocking them!! I’m looking at my ‘85 Hamer Scepter, and they’re rock solid. If you’re doing a top mount, non-recessed Floyd, the wood screws are decked and will literally never give. It’s when you’re trying to do a recess or the neck angle necessitates that the wood screws have to be adjusted too high out of the body, that’s when you have issues. My Brad Gillis guitars? Guaranteed, they will never fail. There also needs to be enough room between the machine screw inserts and the pickup cavity, that can cause extreme weakness in that area. Point is: there’s applications for both. If I’m doing a period build, or adding a Floyd? They’re getting the wood screws 100% of the time.
@@Metalcop5150 that makes sense. All of my Floyd Rose trems are recessed. About the scuff on the headstock- you're going to need a lot more scuffs and scratches to be a Brad Gillis strat! Consider it part of the "relic" process.
@@ivankrushensky I *try* and leave the relic'ing up to the end user! lol
You have any videos showing where all the vac lines go
@@patrickrice6752 No, but it is pretty self explanatory. I do remember that the GT40 intake has a few more vacuum ports than the Fox intake that need to be plugged. The GT40 also, inexplicably doubles up the lines for the PCV system. The simplest thing is to make sure that every vacuum line off of your Fox 5.0 engine are accounted for w/ the GT40 and plug the rest!! Lol, good luck.
@@Metalcop5150 so should the EGR vacuum be tapped into the pcv of on its own.... Im gone have to take it out again and look at it again and see what and how I have it..... I'm getting a code 34 and 66.. both with brand new parts so
@@patrickrice6752 I’m not sure, so I don’t want to give you any uninformed advice. All I know is that the GT40 has more than enough vacuum ports to accommodate ALL of them from the Fox. And you’ll have to plug the extras. Just make sure every Fox vacuum line is accounted for, and plug every unused port on the GT40.
@@Metalcop5150 copy got all everything done.... I'm getting a EGR code and a MAF code and both are brand new so idk..... Could be a circuit issue I guess
@@patrickrice6752 MAF shouldn’t have anything to do with your swap, as long as your sensor is in place, downstream from the TB and intake manifold. EGR is likely to do w/ the swap. How does it run? You say you’re getting codes, from the OBD 1 (blinking lights, or a primitive code reader?) OBD 1 is notoriously bad and in my experience, can even throw codes that are nonexistent in the real world.
Just bought an Epiphone Alex Lifeson Les Paul Custom Axcess, Ruby from Georges Music, Springfield, PA. (Thanks Tommy!) Beautiful quilt maple veneer, awesome binding, Gibson style custom headstock. Gold hardware. Split coils to play Strat tone music. Very versatile and a work of art! Rock on!
@@KenMH2024 Those are very cool guitars!! If I could live w/ the recessed trem, I’d have one too! I often look lustfully at the LP Axcess customs (black) w/ Apex head carve, but $5K is more than I’ve ever paid for a single guitar!! Just can’t pull the trigger. The Epiphone’s are great values. All USA Gibson electronics, quality hardware, Floyd 1000 etc. They’re a real gem. Congrats. Thanks for watching and commenting. 🤘
I think you’re very correct. Thank you for the video.😊
I need to know who makes that sway bar i need one
@@leevongilmore2070 They only made a handful of them, less than 10. They had fitment issues, as did I. I don’t mean to be negative, but you’re never going to find one. It took me 2 years to get that one, pried away from the original owner. And I paid way more than I should have AND it was pretty beat up. I had it blasted and powder coated, it was originally red. I think they were made by Shox Speed?! Or something like that. Pure unobtainium. Sorry.
I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that the guitar was designed by Dudley not Ed. As you correctly stated it was a design we had been working on as an evolution of the silhouette albeit as as a single cu. - measure a silhouette base radius you'll see its identical. Ed was a pain to work with. As a team laughed when we saw the Peavey model as it emulated so much of what we did, we moved on.
@@slapitman In my opinion, yea the Peavey ‘emulated’ the Music Man design, in that it’s a two hum, Floyd Rose, compact in design guitar, and that’s it. Jim DeCola takes a lot of pride in his design and how it’s not a copy of the MM, it’s different in virtually every way, I concur. As he said “Not one single line or curve the same as the Music Man!” Playing them both, back to back? They are very different animals! One thing I can’t stand is the flat top on the MM, it’s super uncomfortable on my forearm. The carved top on the Peavey is much more comfortable to play. I could go on and on. lol Did you work at Music Man? Thanks for watching and commenting. 🤘
Can u use the factory posts?
@@off-roadmax4707 No. the TP-6 uses a post with a more narrow width. Meaning a tunomatic tailpiece will fit on the TP-6 posts, loose and sloppily, but the TP-6 will not fit, at all, on the tunomatic posts. This is for the original Gibson product, which comes w/ new posts. As far as all of the (cheaper) knock offs, they may be made to fit the same size metric posts. I would make sure to buy one w/ good literature, that shows the schematics and gives accurate measurements. Do it!! And let me know how it turns out. Lol Thanks for watching and commenting. 🤘

hey i was thinking of completly remodding my epiphone les paul special and adding a top mounted floyd rose is it possible?
@@r2anura160 Yes, it is possible, but very difficult. I don’t want to discourage you, but the routing will need to be extremely precise. Also, the LP, even an Epiphone is very thick and the neck angle is steep. That means the Floyd will sit approximately 1/4” above the face of the guitar. You will need to use a 42mm block on the Floyd, and the springs will still be slightly angled up to catch it. This is a job best left to a professional, unless you are skilled with a router and have proper Floyd Rose templates.
How did you find one on MAP ?

Where did you find the dashboard brace?
@@blakebell8137 That’s a Factory 5 part. If you want one, I’d buy it now, as they are frequently out of stock. It appears they have them, as of today. In my current car, which ironically IS a Factory 5, I couldn’t get one, so I built my own out of steel tubing and flat stock. Had it powder coated semi gloss black as well. It was pretty easy and turned out way stronger and sturdier than the F5 part. Not that it really needs to do anything but support the bottom of the dash?! Lol The originals were tied in the frame and made up a part of the dash support structure. Here’s the link for the F5 part: www.factoryfiveparts.com/15635-roadster-center-dash-support/
its a shame they didn't made the trem recessed imo. Beautiful rendition of the original wildchild guitar
@@Mastela00 Lol, the ONLY reason I bought it is because the trem is NOT RECESSED!! Have you tried just the TP6 with locking tuners instead of the locking nut? The TP6 looks handy and I'm considering adding one to my Explorer but don't want to put extra holes in the headstock. Sperzel locking tuners would be an easier less permanent mod.
@@FastRedPonyCar I have not tried the TP6 with locking tuners, but I think it would work great! I’m not a big fan of the Sperzels, though. They won’t require new mounting holes, but you do have to drill for the two ‘dimples’ each tuner requires. Not ideal. I have used locking tuners in several instruments though. These days you can find the locking tuner with the exact footprint of your stock tuners. Klusons, Grover’s, Gotohs and Schallers etc. - they’re out there!! I’d probably also use a graphite nut (like PRS). That’s what I would do. Hit me back up in the comments with how it works out for you! Thanks for watching and commenting, my friend! 🤘
@@Metalcop5150 Yeah I've got several brand locking tuners. I just got a second set of the Hipshot tuners. I really like them because they don't need new mounting holes on the back if they don't line up with the factory holes. They have these locking plates that hold them in position. I put a set on my Godin Multiac Steel and they worked out great. I put the Kluson Revolutions on my Tokai Les Paul. Sperzels were a direct fit onto my Charvel though.
Working without the proper tools and in a confused manner...
Only I did have all the proper tools. I even purchased a set of precision Allen screwdrivers in SAE/Imperial sizes, specifically for the Kahler/ this video!! Black rhoads with white pinstripes, gold hardware, a single active pickup with a non recessed Floyd, and a boost knob. That’s a recreation of Alexi Laiho’s prototype from way back in the early days of Children of Bodom. Jackson made two prototypes for him, before they got stolen and he went to ESP. Jackson can’t say what it is due to copyright, but anyone who knows what he used in the early day with his band knows those guitars. It may not say it, but that’s the stone guitar he designed back in the late 90s before he went to ESP. The second prototype was the wild child guitar that was black with yellow pin stripes. All I’m saying is strutting around with that guitar is like making a statement. That guitar stands out for a reason in the metal community. Just making sure you don’t get blindsided when someone asks or assumes you’re a Children of Bodom fan when wielding that guitar and get confused on the topic. Reason I bring it up is you questioning the gold hardware so you might be unaware of what that guitar is.
@@kendan1839 True enough, I’m not an Alexis Laiho fan. It’s still a Rhoads 1st, albeit with some very minute changes. You could still make the argument that it’s Randy Rhoads guitar, or a Dan Spitz guitar etc. Doesn’t really matter, I’m going to change and adapt it, to make it MY guitar!! Lol This isn’t a guitar I would ever gig with, it’s just for me. And good on Jackson for finally recreating Alexi’s guitars. It was pretty lame of him to have ESP build him a ‘Rhoads’ simply because Jackson couldn’t get him replacements fast enough. Whatever, he’s not the first guy and won’t be the last to have an original Jackson / Charvel guitar made as their ‘signature model’ by another company!? Hell, Vinnie Vincent had at least two other companies copy his Jackson VV guitar! Pretty shameless, actually. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@Metalcop5150 No problem. Enjoy the guitar. It’s still a Rhoads guitar first and it’s yours so use it how you see fit. It’s quite rare for Jackson to give non recessed Floyd guitars, plus this is a limited concept run for 2024. So it’s still a good purchase to own one.
Did you need to shim the neck?
Only if you want the tremolo to float. If you want a flush or top mount style, you do not. Meaning the tremolo will rest, right up against the body, Van Halen style, unless you shim the neck. Honestly, with a non-fine tuning Floyd, the flush mount is the way to go. Tuning is already exceedingly difficult, if you wanted the tremolo to float, it would be damn near impossible. Hope this makes sense. Respond if you need any further clarification. 🤘

@@michael4591 Completely agree. This guitar is a nice sweet spot. Not a &4500 USA guitar, but not a $399 POS either. All of the features, brand name parts plus offshore labor costs? Equals one great guitar and a great value. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Really enjoy your projects, do you sell some guitars on some sites, because it feels like I have seen some high end ones on that same bench? 👍
@@Echoes- I do sell guitars!! Many of them are custom built to order. Some guitars are from my personal collection as well. If there was something you wanted, hit me up! Some guitars I’ve built multiples of: Fast Eddie Clarke’s Motörhead Strat, Brad Gillis’ red Strat and Pete Townshend’s Schecter Tele. jeffrylclark@yahoo.com
Please, can you tell if there's an angle between the body and neck, or is it flat ? 🧐🧐🧐
@@dekzan It is flat, I believe. Just enough to facilitate the top mount Floyd Rose. If it was angled, the Floyd would be way too high above the body. Hope this is the answer you were looking for. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@Metalcop5150 Thanks
@@Metalcop5150 Can you tell how to search one with MAP ? Did you use a specific google search, website ?
Hearing you say the gold is tacky was a knife to the heart, how could you possibly think gold on black is tacky?! To each their own though.
Nah, my friend, I love black and gold as the combo is classic in its good looks. It's just for this particular guitar, I have a vision. And it's to make it look like a 1983 Jackson Rhoads, with all black hardware and a gold Floyd/clamp. One of my main guitars is a well modded 1970 Les Paul Custom, in black and gold. The 'tacky' comment was aimed more at the Asian import version of gold hardware. It's almost a bright white gold, not a dark yellow gold, like on USA made guitars, if that makes sense. Either way, it's all good. Thanks for watching and commenting, make sure to stay tuned. 🤘
@@Metalcop5150 Nah I see what you mean, I'll definitely keep up with your channel because now I am invested to see your vision in this guitar, cheers. \m/
cant believe it actually worked😨
@@ASMR_Icedrink Of course it worked!! It’s really that simple. Glad I could help. 😉
I just got an SL1X in Taxi Yellow (So I Taxi cabbed it!). I was like what Steve Vai guitar?!?!? And then I saw the ad. Awesome job!
@@stevedallas6122 Great idea!! Steve did have a couple of yellow Soloists. One w/ a Floyd that had eyeballs all over it, and another w/ a horrid Kahler. That one wasn’t around for very long! lol ‘Eyeballs’ as Steve called it, still exists, maybe in a Hard Rock etc. Thanks for watching and commenting! 🤘
Killer
I've been a Steve Vai fan since he was with David Lee Roth. I've read how he was (and probably still is) hard on his Floyd Rose vibrato units. He wrecked them -- often, I believe. I have yet to break even one, so I feel that I have little to fear from a through neck. I just got my first one and it was dirt cheap, so if it breaks, I'll probably just chalk it up to the cheapness!
I've heard the same thing. He pulls them right out of the guitar, wears out the knife edges etc. That's why it's surprising to me that he uses the Ibanez Edge units, which are notoriously made out of the cheapest pot metals known to man!! lol Seriously, the German made Floyds are practically indestructible, but not to Steve! Steve was commenting about the necks themselves breaking, not the Floyds. Meaning, if you have problems with a broken truss rod, or a twisted neck, on a neck through guitar? It's done. There's really no saving it. Whereas a bolt on, you can chuck the defective neck and simply bolt on a new one! lol again. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@Metalcop5150 I believe that MOST of the Ibanez Edge vibes are exactly what you think they are, but I have read that they have hardened knife edges THAT ARE REPLACEABLE! That last thing might be what keeps Steve coming back to them. Just saying! 😉
@@Metalcop5150 I only paid about $200 for this neck through, so if it dies, well, I learned a lesson. A neck through of some kind was on my bucket list, though, and the price was too good to pass up. I'll tell you this: Now I know a little of what it's like to have a Jackson Soloist. It looks somewhat like one and has the right body shape and size, but the neck and fretboard are completely different. They're a really good match for my fretting hand, though, so this guitar has shot straight to the top of my list. If I were going to take the stage with one of my guitar idols tonight and I could only take two guitars with me, it would be one of the two ... and the other one cost me nearly 3 times as many dollars in early 2000s money!
Where was it make ?
The X Series Jackson guitars are made in Indonesia. They are excellent guitars, made out of real alder and maple etc. They save money on: the fingerboards, the Floyd Rose 1000, Duncan Designed pickups, the hardware, and the labor, of course. But they are excellent guitars, for any price range.
@@Metalcop5150 Thank you for the answer! Unfortunately I don’t have such a good experience with Indonesian guitars.
I have Gibson Les Paul custom and from the factory Tail piece all the way down. Nashville bridge screws facing opposite to yours. It plays flawlessly happy to keep it that way the next time I change strings.. keep it simple
@@jimjim7008 Yes, the Nashville bridges (as a rule) have the screws facing the ‘butt end’ of the guitar. I specify which is which in the description. The video is in regards to the far more widely used ABR1. And as I said in the video, it doesn’t matter which way the bridge faces, as long as it’s properly intonated. I also prefer the tailpiece is screwed all the way down to the deck, and then over wrapped, if necessary. I also use the extra ball end trick, so that the sharp tied string ends don’t end up on the tailpiece, and into your palm!! Lol Glad you’re happy w/ your guitar,if it works? I wouldn’t change a thing either. Thanks for watching and commenting. 🤘
Awesome info. Really appreciate the extra bits about Kramers.
Check out this more recent video, where I install a Floyd on a Fender Strat style guitar! 🤘 ruclips.net/video/Vjq46nVM_QA/видео.htmlsi=1t_ZwYCtS3oqPD9A
Nice. Got a deal on a monster energy schecter PT cause I love that look, double bound black body, hard to beat 👍
Definitely a classic look. I think I’m going to build the next one w/ a black painted neck/ fretboard. Killer!! Thanks for watching and commenting.
